Humanity Gives Orphan Appeal Supporting Orphans The Story behind the Cause.
Have you ever wondered why Oxfam is called Oxfam? or why the trustees of the British Heart Foundation decided to focus on the Heart and why use the word British and not Irish or English?
Well, when you visit Humanity Gives.com you will see that one of our major causes is Orphans.
We are not a religious charity so why do we focus on Orphans, I’m not saying that only religious charities support Orphans this is not true but why did Humanity Gives get involved in supporting Orphans and Why was Morocco chosen as our first destination to support an Orphanage there.
It all started a few years ago when the last thing on my mind was charitable. In my previouslife and for several years I’d beentaking anabolic steroids with this silly notion of wanting to become an amateur body builder. I took copious amounts as if they were candies in a sweet shop without due regard to Post Course Therapy or the damage they would inflict on my body. Lo and behold, one sunny afternoon I found myself with severe kidney damage and was convalescing at home watching, day dreaming about my life and trying to ignore the ever present dull ache that emanated from my kidney area.
A friend of mine approached me and asked if I would like to accompany him to Morocco, promising me a relaxing time where I could rest without distractions for a week, initially I said no but then he promised me that Morocco was a land of milk and honey, filled with exotic belly dancers, snake charmers and amazing cuisine. (He had me at the exotic dancers) and so I found myself travelling for the first time to this place called Morocco.
Now this chap who I was travelling with is no ordinary chap, he is a walking contradiction, dresses like a street thug walks with a swagger, wears a fake razor bladenecklace, his perfectly manicured appearance his hair and his goatee belie the fact that this chap is a scholar of Islam and holds one of the highest positions as an Islamic teacher. To me he was simply my friend, my teacher and later to become my spiritual guide. He is also an avid book hunter, collector and like most religious scholars that I have met he had an ulterior motive, it wasn’t my health he was interested in, rather he needed my bulk to follow him around from souq to souq (market to market) looking for rare manuscripts, he needed a book carrier. Someone to follow him around carrying his books and who better than me.
However, it was during our first trip he questioned my purpose, now for those of you who follow Humanity Gives Blogs. You will know that I am a Youth worker but I find the task mentally and physically draining and have little or no energy at the end of the day,
This is where during lengthy conversations on philosophy and Quantum Physics that I was introduced to the Law of Attraction, it wasn’t called that, but the principles of gratitude and an obstinate faith that everything is for the better good all come from or have been codified into what is known as the Law of Attraction.
My response that I wanted to become wealthy, for example was answered by being told to give more. I was told that every time I met my parents for example on my weekly home visits to dig into my wallet and whatever money I had to simply hand it over. I must confide for the month or so that I did this my parents must have thoughttheir prayers had come true. Visiting the Orphanage occurred shortly on our second trip to the land of sand and sweat!!! But you will need to read the next instalment for that…
